Chris Evans to Narrate Imax Documentary ‘Superpower Dogs’

Captain America star Chris Evans will narrate Imax’s upcoming documentary ‘Superpower Dogs,’ about six real-life canine heroes and their human partners as they brave earthquakes and avalanches to save lives.

Captain America star Chris Evans will narrate Imax’s upcoming documentary Superpower Dogs.

The first trailer for the film about six real-life canine heroes and their human partners as they brave earthquakes and avalanches to save lives features Evans, who is a dog owner himself.

“I love the way this film highlights incredible working dogs who utilize their real-life superpowers to help and protect people,” Evans said in a statement Friday.

The Hollywood star first played Steve Rogers, or Captain America, in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, before going on to appear in The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and other Marvel films.

Superpower Dogs is from Cosmic Picture, writer-director Daniel Ferguson and producers Taran Davies, George Duffield and Dominic Cunningham-Reid.

Chris Evans & Anya Taylor-Joy to Lead Star-Studded New Movie ‘Sacrifice’

Chris Evans, Anya Taylor-Joy, Salma Hayek Pinault and Brendan Fraser will star in Sacrifice, a film co-written and to be directed by Romain Gavras. Like his last film Athena that premiered last Venice and was released on Netflix, Sacrifice has a similar combustible and propulsive anarchy coursing through the film.

This is closer to satire, but the script by Gavras and Will Arbery was strong enough to compel the leads to commit over the span of four days since the script was sent to talent. More actors will be set shortly, and I expect that the project — CAA Media Finance is selling the world with Rocket Science — won’t have a lot of territories left by the time buyers hit the Croisette. All the elements are there to launch Gavras as a major writer-director, here making his first English-language film.

Here is the logline: a high end charity gala is raided by a violent group of radicals on a mystical quest to fulfill a prophecy.

Taylor-Joy — who’ll be at the Cannes premiere of the George Miller-directed Furiosa playing the title character in the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, will play the passionate antagonist — and Evans will play the movie star she has tapped to die, along with the two others. Evans is coming off his Captain America turns, Knives Out and the Jake Kasdan-directed Red One and the Ethan Coen-directed Honey Don’t; Fraser is coming off his Oscar turn in The Whale and Killers of the Flower Moon and next up for Hayek is the Angelina Jolie-directed Without Blood. She is also EP on the TV series transfer Like Water for Chocolate.

Iconoclast and Robert Walak, the president of Iconoclast’s Film and TV division, will produce with Gavras. Taylor-Joy and Evans also produce, with Arbery executive producer.

Chris Evans Defends Superhero Movies Amid Fatigue Debate: “I Think They Deserve A Little More Credit”

Captain America is coming to Marvel‘s defense as actor Chris Evans is weighing in on the superhero movie fatigue debate and noting that comic book films deserve much more credit.

During an appearance at the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle this past weekend, Evans said movies based on comic books “don’t always get the credit they deserve.”

“They are these big, giant movies,” Evans said during the panel. “There’s a lot of cooks in the kitchen. But the empirical evidence is in: They are not easy to make. If it was easier, there would be a lot more good ones.”

The actor continued, “I’m not throwing shade! I’ve been a part of a few that missed. It happens. Making a movie is tough. More cooks in the kitchen doesn’t make it easier. I don’t want to highlight specific films in the Marvel catalog, but some of them are phenomenal. Like independently, objectively great movies, and I think they deserve a little more credit.”

After The Avengers star was asked which superhero movie was his favorite, he revealed it was 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier because “We were taking more risks, and the character felt more fleshed out. It was one of the more satisfying experiences I’ve had in my Marvel run.”

Evans’ comments come after Paul Dano also weighed in on the debate about superhero movie fatigue. The actor starred in The Batman and played the villain Riddler. Dano said that this moment could help filmmakers rethink the superhero movie genre or abandon it completely.

“It’s an interesting moment where everybody has to go like, ‘OK – what now?’ Hopefully from that, somebody either breathes new life into [comic book movies], or something else blossoms which is not superheroes,” Dano told The Independent in an interview promoting Spaceman. “I’m sure there will still be some good ones yet to come, but I think it’s kind of a welcome moment.” [Source]

Celine Song’s Rom-Com ‘Materialists’ Set at A24 With Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans in Talks to Star

Celine Song is reuniting with A24 for her second feature following her breakout directorial debut “Past Lives,” with an A-list cast in talks to star.

Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans are in talks to lead the romantic comedy “Materialists,” which reteams Song with A24, Killer Films and 2AM. A24 will handle the global release of the film, with a rumored launch at the European Film Market in Berlin.

“Materialists,” which Song revealed would be her follow up to “Past Lives” late last year, is a New York-set rom-com following a high-end matchmaker who gets involved with a wealthy man. The roles Johnson, Pascal and Evans would be playing have not been disclosed.

As with “Past Lives,” producers on the project include Christine Vachon, Pamela Koffler for Killer Films and David Hinojosa of 2AM. It’s believed to start production in May.

After premiering at Sundance in 2023, Song’s debut feature, starring Greta Lee, Teo Yoo and John Magaro, would go on to become one of the most talked about films of the year. Its success underlined Song as an exciting new cinematic voice, and the film was listed in numerous “best of” lists and has become a major fixture of awards season.

Among a lengthy list of accolades, “Past Lives” received five Golden Globe nominations and is currently in the running for two Academy Awards (best picture and best original screenplay). It also received three BAFTA Film Awards nominations (best actor, best original screenplay, best film not in the English language). The film has so far made more than $20 million at the global box office. [Source]

Honey Don’t!: Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza & Chris Evans Join Ethan Coen Pic

Ahead of Focus Features‘ February 23rd release of Drive-Away Dolls, the road-trip caper marking her first collaboration with Academy Award winner Ethan Coen, Margaret Qualley has been set to star in Honey Don’t!, the filmmaker’s latest for the same studio.

Joining Qualley in the cast are Aubrey Plaza (My Old Ass) and Chris Evans (Pain Hustlers). Details as to the film’s plot are currently under wraps, though Deadline understands it’s a comedy in the same vein as Drive-Away Dolls.

Coen is directing from his script written with wife Tricia Cooke, the veteran editor who cut such Coen Brothers classics as The Big Lebowski and O Brother, Where Art Thou?, also co-writing the upcoming Drive-Away Dolls. Pic’s producers are Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Coen, Cooke, and Robert Graf.

In Ethan Coen’s solo effort Drive-Away Dolls, Qualley portrays Jamie, an uninhibited free spirit bemoaning yet another breakup with a girlfriend, whose demure friend Marian (Geraldine Viswanathan) desperately needs to loosen up. In search of a fresh start, the two embark on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, but things quickly go awry when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals along the way.

A two-time Emmy nominee currently among the most in-demand actresses in town, Qualley is known for turns on such prestige series as Maid, Fosse/Verdon and The Leftovers, and has further cemented her star power with standout turns in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Neon’s dominatrix pic Sanctuary, among other big screen titles. Most recently appearing in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Academy Award-nominated fantasy Poor Things, based on the novel by Alasdair Gray, she’ll also be seen in Lanthimos’ upcoming anthology film Kinds of Kindness.
